When rain keeps hot-mix plants idle and potholes multiply, ready-to-use cold mix lets crews patch roads quickly, even in damp conditions.
Every monsoon, the same pattern repeats. Water gets into small cracks, traffic does the rest, and within days a surface defect has become a pothole that damages vehicles and slows everyone down. The question for maintenance teams is how quickly they can respond.
Why hot mix is not always practical
Hot-mix patching depends on a plant, on keeping the material at temperature during transport, and on a reasonably dry surface. In remote stretches, during heavy rain, or for a handful of small repairs, those requirements can delay the work well beyond the point where the damage is manageable.
What cold mix offers
GWC Cold Mix is a ready-to-use patching material for pothole repair and road maintenance. No hot-mix plant is required, so repairs can be carried out quickly, even in damp conditions.
GWC Asphalt's CSS-1H has been tested and used on road stretches in Shillong, including damp areas, and was found to perform well, with fast and effective restoration of potholes.
That assessment came from the Chief Engineer (Standard), PWD (Roads), Government of Meghalaya, who recommended the product for pothole repair on Meghalaya's roads.
A simple patching routine
- Mark out the damaged area and cut back to sound material with clean, square edges.
- Remove water, loose stones and debris from the hole.
- Fill with cold mix in layers, compacting each layer.
- Finish slightly proud of the surface, compact again and reopen to traffic.
These are general good-practice steps. For large repairs or special surfaces, ask the GWC Asphalt team for application advice before you start.
